Additional Income From Seasonal Holiday Jobs Just When People Need It The Most
Christmas is a hectic time of year and it’s different for everybody.
Some people work at jobs where they receive Christmas bonuses, but many people don’t.
The issue with buying a lot of gifts for friends and family is you still must pay your monthly bills and depending on your financial situation, you may need to find a seasonal job.
Now The Good News
Well that’s the bad news, but the good news is this is the time of year where you can find jobs that last a month.
Even if you don’t have to spend a lot for Christmas, it may be wise to take one of these jobs regardless.
There are all sorts of pros and cons to working some of these positions, and we are going to inform you of what companies are hiring and which are the best to work for!
Seasonal Package Delivery
They both offer multiple jobs that should work with your schedule.
The top seasonal UPS job is being a driver helper for a few weeks.
Generally, the position pays $15 an hour and is a great way to make extra money this holiday season.
UPS and FedEx have about two to three times the packages they would normally have during the year and it would take too long for a driver to complete each stop by themselves.
So, with this job your tasks include sitting in the truck with the driver as they drive to every stop and you help deliver each package.
The benefits of this job are you aren’t sitting in one location the whole time because you are driving around with the driver the whole day.
Then you help the driver run packages to houses until all the packages are delivered for the day.
It’s a very active job because you will probably walk around 8 miles every day give or take.
Sometimes this job is very relaxed because you just drive up to a house, drop off a package, then get back in the truck and do it again.
But when you get to apartment complexes or retail stores, it can be physically challenging.
The other downer to this job is if you live in where the weather gets cold because you must be outside for most the time.
Even if the work feels hard, I would just tell myself “this is only for a month or so” and you can find the strength to get through it.
Seasonal Warehouse Work
But if you work during the day and this isn’t an option for you, you could consider working in the warehouses of FedEx and UPS.
They both need warehouse workers and you would either be responsible for loading the trucks early in the morning or unloading the trucks when they return late at night.
So, they almost have something available 24/7.
One thing I try to do when looking for seasonal help is think of the places I typically go to only around Christmas time.
Most major retail stores are always looking for help due to the volume they get during the holidays.
If you live by a mall, it might be worth your time to walk around and see how many stores have seasonal help wanted signs.
The mall is a great place to look because there are multiple stores or kiosk that are only open during the holiday season.
They are seasonal stores so to speak, and naturally you would only be there during the holidays.
You can even get a job helping with photos for the “meet Santa” station that is in every mall everywhere.
The only problem I’ve found with many the retail stores is that they typically pay about 10 bucks an hour give or take depending on the job.
Most the jobs that are offered are easy and consist of you either helping customers or running the cash registers.
Weather isn’t a factor since all the retail jobs are inside, and you won’t have to worry about snow and cold if you live in a state where that’s an issue.
What About Amazon?
Something a lot of people don’t realize is that a significant number people nowadays purchase their gifts online.
This is one of the reasons UPS and FedEx are so busy, but so are sites like Amazon!
Did you know Amazon has warehouses all over the US and they are always looking for seasonal help?
Amazon needs help in their warehouse due to the high volume of packages, but it doesn’t end there.
If doing physical type labor isn’t up your alley, then they also need customer service representatives to help with all the calls or even online chats.
Amazon is a great company and they offer competitive wages that are in that $10-15 an hour range give or take.
Also, one of the great things about online stores is they are open 24 hours a day so they need employees 24 hours a day.
There are multiple positions with a lot of flexibility to fit your schedule as well.
Some Other Interesting Seasonal Work
There are a lot of little jobs that are in high demand during the Christmas also.
Are you crafty and very detail oriented?
Then you should consider being a gift wrapper because many people (including me) would much rather pay someone to wrap their presents professionally as opposed to attempting to do it themselves.
Being a gift wrapper is a pretty relaxed job and you don’t have to deal with many people because you aren’t taking orders or talking to customers.
This isn’t for everyone and you should be good at wrapping, but the good news is most places will train you.
Taking It All In
While I believe the Holiday Season is great because you get to take time and focus on family, it can be an expensive time of year.
It’s great to get lined up with jobs like these beyond the extra money you make each December.
If you do your job well enough and liked it, odds are you will be able to return next year or even years down the line.
I personally worked at UPS about five years ago, and since my brother and sister keep procreating, I have more nieces and nephews this year than ever before.
I was able to apply and get back with UPS this year, and it works great considering I work from home.
It isn’t a bad thing to have in your back pocket when you are tight on money during the holiday season.
It also helps give you the financial freedom to take care of your family members on Christmas!
