The concept of making money blogging at its core is very simple and easy to understand. We will break it down for you in its simplest terms in this article.
Here are the steps at the very basic level and then we will talk about each step in a little more detail.
- Write and create content for your blog to try and get visitors
- Get your visitors to sign up to a subscriber list
- Send out information of value to your subscriber list and build their trust
- Monetize or sell products or services that your subscribers want
Those four steps are really all there is to making money from blogging in a nutshell. Now although the concept is very easy, the time and effort it takes to create a successful blog that earns money is a little different story.
Why People Give Up
It is a slow process and this is what usually throws people off. You're not going to make money overnight no matter what anyone tells you unless you just get extremely lucky. Just like the late-night infomercials in the old days, you're only hearing the extreme cases of success and not all the failures in between.
I would have to say though that the vast majority of the failures in blogging is due to people not having the passion to stay with it. You have to be wanting to do what you're doing even if you're not seeing any benefit from it initially.
So if you think you want to start a blog and start writing and publishing online, make sure you're doing it for the right reason. Make sure you're picking a topic area that you have a great passion for and have adequate knowledge about. You don't have to be an expert in what you're writing, many people write about their learning process in their journey in learning something new.
But you do have to have the passion to endure, and you have to be able to produce good content in order to attract visitors if you do ever want to make money from your blog.
How To Build Your Audience
There are a lot of tricks people try to use in order to increase their audience and page views for their blog., such as trying to game the Google ranking systems, using paid advertisements, buying back links, among other methods.
I still believe the number one way to increase your traffic is to provide information that people want. If you do that then your audience will grow. But it still takes time. If the information you provide is good, people will read it, share it, and come back to it. They will return to your site, read your other articles, and hopefully sign up to your subscriber list.
- Write About What You're Passionate About
- Provide Information That People Want
Here's An Analogy
Try thinking about blogging as an investment and the compound interest making your investment grow is time and content. As any good financial consultant will tell you, the number one factor in many wealth generation strategies is the power of time and compounding interest.
Just as you invest money, your interest payments are reinvested and you gain more interest over time due to the overall balance of your account growing. And if you keep adding money to your account on top of this, then the account will grow faster.
And if you have ever used one of those online financial calculators to calculate earnings from investments with compounding interest, you have undoubtedly noticed that although your earnings start out very small and even inconsequential at first, over time the growth becomes larger and larger until a snowball effect is noticed.
The same can be said about blogging. Think of it as your bank account starting out with nothing more than a zero balance. As you add quality information to your blog that people want, your balance begins to grow. You will slowly gain visitors and subscribers to your site, and as you add content that investment continues to increase in size.
Now depending on how much content and the quality of the content you continue to add, the growth curve for your visitors and subscribers will be based on the amount of effort you're putting in to your site. As time goes by your balance in your account continues to grow just as your bank balance would. Then hopefully if you have found that right balance of writing about what you're both passionate about and what the reader wants, then eventually you will have the same snowball effect as your investment strategy.
You will also be learning along the way, what works, what doesn't work, and other strategies that help engage your visitors. And hopefully you'll help your readers solve problems or make things easier in the area you're writing about. In my opinion it is this task that builds trust in what you have to say and what you recommend to your readers.
Using The Trust You Build With Your Readers To Generate Income
Now I know on the surface looking to generate income from your readers feels almost like a little bit of exploitation. But in reality it's not. Hopefully you are giving your readers good accurate information, information that helps them in some way.
Most of the information you will be giving them is completely free of charge. It is in the form of your advice, subject matter knowledge, and tips and strategy for being better at whatever you decide to write about. And 99.9% of this information is available to them for free just by reading your blog.
If you provide good information then people will begin to trust what you say and what you recommend. After all you should have earned that. If you haven't earned that then it doesn't matter what you recommend because people won't listen to you to begin with.
Once you have earned the trust of your readers then if you find a tool, workshop, program, educational course, a physical product or service that your readers want or need, you can start recommending products that are for sale to your readers and subscriber list where you can earn a commission for referring those products or services.
Now if you decide to recommend a product or service that is not up to your readership members expectations, then the trust they have in you for recommending additional products will not be good. But if you recommend products or services that help them solve a problem or fill a want or need, then they will trust additional recommendations from you. This will also give you more opportunities to generate income or revenue from your visitor base.
With enough time, good information, and trust from your readers then the snowball effect from all of your investments in your blog can really add up.
We hope you found this information useful and if you think you have the passion and endurance to become a successful blogger then we wish you all the best in your efforts.
